During our December banquet, we announced that United States Senator Mitch McConnell (R-KY) was the 2023 recipient of the Reese L. Smith, Jr. Distinguished Service Award. Senator McConnell was unable to attend the banquet, but Steve Smith recently had the opportunity to make the presentation to McConnell in Washington, D.C. Smith received the award named for his father in 2008. Senator McConnell has been one of the industry’s most solid supporters and advocates over the past 35 years. During his extensive time in the United States Senate and his tenure as Leader, McConnell has always been willing to advocate for the industry and the enormous impact it has on lives and rural communities in his home state of Kentucky and throughout the Country.
