TWHBEA members now have the ability to enter microchip numbers for their horses directly through their iPEDs account. This convenient new feature gives owners and breeders more control over maintaining accurate and complete records.
Microchips can still be purchased directly from TWHBEA, and when they are, we’ll enter the associated information for you at no charge. However, as microchipping continues to grow in popularity, many breeders are purchasing microchips in bulk. This update allows those members to enter the numbers themselves as part of each horse’s record. For those who prefer, TWHBEA can also enter microchip numbers—even if the chips weren’t purchased from us—for a small fee.
Microchipping provides horses with a permanent, tamper-proof form of identification that’s invaluable for verifying ownership, recovering lost or stolen horses, and preventing fraud. For breeders managing multiple foals each year, it’s also an excellent way to keep track of individual horses for registration and sales purposes.
