Generator's Silver Dollar
5/12/1991 - 11/14/2016
On November 14th 2016 our industry lost a true icon. Generator’s Silver Dollar was humanely put to rest on the farm of his owners Curtice and Dr. Bob McCloy in Norman Oklahoma. With the diagnosis of some health issues in March of 2015, Silver Dollar had been relocated and retired to the home of the McCloys to live out his days running on the plains of Oklahoma.
Generator’s Silver Dollar was born May 12th, 1991. He was bred and raised by Clifford Dean of Ft. Payne, Alabama. Silver Dollar was purchased by C.A. West as a two year old when he was under the direction of Billy and Tim Gray. As a two year old Generator’s Silver Dollar was crowned, at the Tennessee Walking Horse National Celebration, World Champion Two Year Old stallion in 1993. After a successful three year old year Silver Dollar was Reserve World Champion Three Year Old Amateur Stallion with C.A. West aboard. It was during this time with Billy and Tim Gray that Silver Dollar was noticed by Bob and Curtice McCloy for an amateur mount for their daughter Allison.
Owned and loved by the McCloy Family for the past 22 years, Silver Dollar carried Allison to a World Championship in 1995 by becoming World Champion Four Year Old Amateur Stallion. Another Res. World Championship in 1996 with Allison aboard and becoming a World Grand Champion in 1997 with Link Webb aboard in the 15.2 Stake. One of his greatest show ring appearances was in the 2000 Tennessee Walking Horse World Grand Championship Stake, after a grueling class he was named Res. World Grand Champion Tennessee Walking Horse. The excitement of that class is still remembered today. Silver Dollar made 66 show ring appearances and left the ring with 30 Championships and 23 Res. Championships. He was a World Grand Champion, A twice Reserve World Grand Champion, three time World Champion and four time Res. World Champion included in those 66 appearances.
Toward the end of his show ring career the McCloys were inundated with requests to breed to Silver Dollar so the arrangements were made for him to be located at stud at Bridlewood Farms in Shelbyville, Tennessee under the management of the late Larry Lowman. Being a son of the great Prides Generator and with his unique sabino coloring, Silver Dollar’s popularity as a breeding sire took off. With the daily promotion of Bridlewood Farm staffer Tanya Hopper, Silver Dollar became a household name among the top breeders. The past 15 years Silver Dollar stood at Rising Star Ranch under the direction during different years by David Williams, Dr. Mike Harry, Mike Hicks, and Tracy Boyd. Silver Dollar produced 1,357 TWHBEA registered foals from 1998-2015. He was noted for producing very talented foals with much stamina and great looks. He produced many World Champions, too many to mention them all but a few of the notables are A Strong Dollar, My First Dollar, Absolute Proof, It’s Silver Dollar Time, A Bit Of Change, Here’s Your Change, The Royal Dollar, Dollar’s Bright Star, Bad Economy, Silver Shiraz, Hello Dollar, I’m Silver Too, Worth A Buck, Admission Is A Dollar, Spooky Dollar, Dollars And Dreams, Beamin’ Dollar, Foolish Dollar, Moonstruck Dollar, Cry Baby Cry, Absolutely Flawless, Gold Coin In Dixie, It’s Taboo, Twisted Dollar, Silver Dollar Make Me Hollar, Susan B. Anthony, Jackie O’s My Sister, Mama’s Almighty Dollar, and High Fashion Statement just to name a few. He was also the sire of famed retired Flag Horse of the Tennessee Walking Horse National Celebration Counterfeit Dollar; who was also his paddock companion and who was by his side during his last days.
A Tennessee Walking Horse Icon for all times, Silver Dollar will be fondly remembered by his owners, trainers, stallion managers, grooms, breeders and fans as their horse and “The People’s Horse”. Generator’s Silver Dollar was 25 years old.
