In Memory of Stephen Brown
Longtime Tennessee Walking Horse enthusiast Stephen Brown, of Vancouver, Washington, passed away Monday, October 13, 2014, following a hard-fought battle with cancer. A former schoolteacher and school administrator, Stephen devoted his life to assisting others.
For the Tennessee Walking Horse Breeders’ And Exhibitors’ Association (TWHBEA), Stephen was always a great friend and asset. He was a multiple-term director for the state of Washington and he was the Owners/Exhibitors/International Vice President for three years. He was also a great promoter of the association and our breed, traveling to locations as far flung as Central America, Europe, and Canada to spread the word about the great Tennessee Walking Horse.
Involved with Tennessee Walking Horses for over 30 years, Stephen was active in nearly all areas of our industry. He bred and raised many talented horses including world grand champion The Wicked Master. He also showed in just about every division available. He was a longtime student of our breed and an accomplished judge who adjudicated some of our greatest shows including the Celebration, Fun Show, Mississippi State Charity Show, and the International Grand Championships. He was also a popular horse show announcer and manager.
In addition to his service to TWHBEA, Stephen actively supported several other organizations within the breed. He was a former president of the Tennessee Walking Horse Foundation, a director for the Walking Horse Owners’ Association, and a former two-term president of the Western International Walking Horse Association.
A great friend and breed ambassador, Stephen Brown will be missed by everyone at TWHBEA and by the Tennessee Walking Horse industry at large. He will long be remembered for his dedication to our breed and for his generosity and humor.
