TWHBEA Congratulates 2012 Pleasure Horse Ambassador Sherrie Szucs

This year’s TWHBEA Pleasure Horse Ambassador Award was presented to Sherrie Szucs. Growing up in Bellevue, Ohio, Sherrie was a typical horse crazy girl, begging her parents at every turn for a horse. Finally, when she was 14 her dream came true when her father bought her a Tennessee Walking Horse named Pickaway Babe. Over the next few years Sherrie showed her in 4-H, trained her to pull a sleigh and rode her in a mounted posse group. It wasn’t long before her parents were equally enchanted with horses and she had a second Tennessee Walking Horse, one better suited to breed competitions. Sherrie continued to work her horse at home and through trial and error honed her skills as a trainer. By her senior year in high school she knew that this was what she wanted to do with her life. After graduation she began training horses for other people. She started her training career with performance horses but by the mid 1980s she had seen the horse that would change her focus forever - Symbol’s Nite Hawk. Under Sherrie’s direction, Nite Hawk would go on to claim the Plantation Pleasure Reserve World Grand Championship. Many other pleasure horses would follow in his hoof prints and find success with Sherrie’s guidance - horses such as World Champions Genius’ Boy Pride, Genius Fashion Show, Praise Hallelujah, Rich And Smart, Genius Precious Pearl, Summer Wishes, City Lights, Coins In A Row, Show Shine, Newt and WIZO. Outside of the show ring, Sherrie has served as a director from Ohio for TWHBEA and played an integral part in the success of the Buckeye Walking Horse Association. She is also a successful judge and clinician.
